Deploying the dBASE Plus Runtime
There is great news about deploying the dBASE Plus runtime, especially for those of you who have ISPs who are reluctant to install dBASE Plus on their servers. You don't have to tell them dBASE Plus is there!! (Well, you wouldn't except for the BDE. If you use Advantage Database Server when we release our native Plus/Advantage driver, you won't even need that. And almost any ISP will install the BDE for you.)
Why don't they need to know you've installed dBASE Plus? Because the dBASE Plus runtime can be installed without any registry entries. The search path dBASE Plus uses to look for its files is as follows:
1. The current folder
2. The executable's home folder
3. The Windows System (WinNT System32) folder
and if all three of these fail
4. The Windows registry.
According to tests on a virgin machine, you only need the following files to run dBASE Plus Web applications:
1. PLUSrun.exe
2. PLUSr_xx.dll (where "xx" is your local dBASE Plus language code)
You can copy these files right into your runtime (CGI) folder and never install dBASE Plus itself on your server. You'll also save the cost of one additional license.
