Edit Table Privileges dialog box
For the selected dBASE (DBF) table, define various table-access and field-access privileges for each user group.
Dialog box options
Group
Assign the current table to a group. A DBF table can be assigned to only one group. Only users associated with the assigned group can access the table. Click the down arrow to display a list of the available groups from the Group list (you created these groups when you added users and associated them with groups in the New User dialog box).
Table access levels
For each type of table operation, specify the most restricted access level that you want to allow to perform that operation:
Read View the table contents
Update Edit existing rows in the table
Extend Add rows to the table
Delete Delete rows from the table
To set table privileges, select a value (1–8) for each operation. 1 indicates the greatest access; 8 indicates the most restriction. If you set a level of 3, for example, users with user access levels of 1, 2, and 3 can perform the operation, but those with levels 4 through 8 cannot.
Field privileges
For each field, set one of three access privileges granted to each access level.
Full View and modify the field (default)
Read Only Only view the field; no editing allowed.
None No access. (This prevents the user from seeing the field altogether.)
You cannot specify access levels that are logically incompatible. For example, you cannot prohibit level 6 from having read access, but also permit level 6 to have update access. To have update access, level 6 also needs read access.
How to get there: Choose File|Database Administration. Click Security. Enter the administrator password. In the Security dialog box, click the Tables tab. Click Modify Table.
