To search and replace text,

  1. Enter the text to find in the Find What text box. The first time the dialog is used, the word located by the insertion point or the currently selected text appears in this box by default.

Choose Replace to replace the text and find the next occurrence of the text.

Choose Find Next to skip to the next occurrence of the text.

Edit text directly in the editor window (the dialog will remain open).

Choose Replace All to replace all occurrences of the text.

dBASE Plus remembers the contents of the Find What text box. Unless text is highlighted in the editor, each time the Replace Text dialog is opened dBASE Plus will prefill the Find What text box with the most recently used search string.

When multiple files are open in the source editor, you may find and replace the same text in each file simply by clicking the filename tabs.

Dialog box options

Match whole words

Check this option if you want to search for the text as an independent group of characters, not a string included in other words. Otherwise, the search finds the text both as an independent group of characters and within longer words. For example, if you're searching for "tool," dBASE Plus will highlight the word "toolbar" as well as "tool."

Match case

Differentiates between uppercase and lowercase letters when searching. For example, "Company Name" is different from "company name" when Match Case is on.

Direction

Up searches from the cursor location to the beginning of the file.

Down searches from the cursor location to the end of the file

How to get there: Choose Edit|Search|Replace Text.
